Privacy policy

This policy explains what data Confessions may handle, why, and what you can expect from us. It applies to everyone using the platform, whether you are only reading, posting, or taking part in comments, messages, and rooms.

What data we may collect

The platform may collect data that is necessary to run the service, improve it, and protect it from abuse. What is collected depends on how you use it: you may be a visitor only, a registered user, someone publishing content, or someone taking part in comments, messages, and rooms. The data handled may include account data, your username, an email address where one is used, an encrypted password, the content you publish, technical usage data, reports you send, and settings tied to your account or your device.

Account data

When you create an account, the platform may ask for the basic information needed to create and manage it: a username, login details, and any settings attached to the account. If you want to stay private, choose a username that does not reveal who you are. You are responsible for protecting your login details and for not sharing them with anyone. Any activity carried out through your account is treated as yours.

The content you publish

Any confession, comment, message, or content you enter on the platform remains your own responsibility. Some content is public and visible to others; some sits inside specific features such as messages or rooms. Understand that anything published on the internet can be copied, screenshotted, saved, or shared by other users, even after it is deleted here.

Private messages and rooms

The platform may offer communication features such as private messages and chat rooms. They are for communicating inside the platform, and must be used responsibly: no breaching other people's privacy, and no threats, blackmail, harassment, or content that breaks the rules. Message records and room data may be retained for operational and security purposes — showing conversations, handling reports, preventing abuse, and applying the platform's policies.

Reports and review

When you report content, an account, a message, or a room, the details of the report, its reason, the related content, and data about the reporting and reported users may be stored so the team can review the case and decide. Content or interactions may be reviewed where there is a report, a violation, or unusual activity. The purpose is to protect the community, reduce abuse, and apply the rules.

Technical data and usage logs

The platform may automatically record technical data while you use the service: IP address, browser type, operating system, device type, time of visit, pages requested, technical errors, and login attempts. This is used for security, diagnosing problems, preventing attacks, limiting failed login attempts, fighting fake accounts, and improving performance.

Cookies and storage

The platform may use cookies or similar storage technologies to keep your login session, remember some preferences, protect forms, improve the experience, and prevent misuse of the service. You can control cookies through your browser settings, but disabling them may stop some features from working, including login and forms.

How the data is used

Data is used to provide the service, run accounts, display content, let people interact, improve performance, and protect the platform from abuse and technical risk. It may also be used to review reports, apply the community rules, enforce restrictions, prevent spam, detect unusual login attempts, fix errors, and develop features.

Sharing data with third parties

Personal data is not sold. The platform may, however, rely on external services or tools that are necessary for operation, protection, analytics, advertising, hosting, or performance, and those services may handle some technical data under their own policies. Information may be disclosed where that is required by law or in response to a lawful request from a competent authority.

Advertising and external services

The platform may contain advertisements, links, or external services. Those parties may use cookies or similar technologies to display ads, measure performance, or improve their own services. The platform does not fully control third-party privacy policies, so we recommend reviewing the policies of those services when you interact with them or follow a link to them.

Protecting the data

The platform uses reasonable measures to protect data against unauthorised access, alteration, loss, or misuse. These measures are technical and organisational, within the means available and the nature of the service. Even so, no method of transmission or storage over the internet is completely secure, so full protection against every risk cannot be guaranteed, and you should take that into account in what you choose to publish.

Retention

Data may be retained for as long as it is needed to run the platform, manage accounts, display content, handle reports, apply policies, keep security logs, or comply with legal and operational requirements. Some content or records may remain after an account or content is deleted, where that is necessary for security or legal reasons, for reviewing reports, or to prevent repeated abuse.

Deleting an account or changing your data

The platform may provide options to change some account data, delete it, or change the settings attached to it. Some data may not be deletable immediately if it is tied to reports, violations, security logs, or operational requirements. When an account or content is deleted, what is visible to users may be removed or disabled, while limited copies may remain in logs, backups, or security records for a period.

Other people's privacy

The platform may not be used to publish personal information about other people without their consent. That includes names, photos, phone numbers, addresses, workplaces, personal accounts, private conversations, or any detail that could identify someone or cause them harm. If you publish data belonging to someone else, you bear full responsibility for it, and the platform may remove that content or restrict the account behind it.

Children and minors

The platform is not intended for children or for anyone who does not have the legal capacity to use services of this kind under the laws of their country. Minors should use the internet under the supervision of a guardian, or as local law allows. Where an account or content is found to breach age requirements, put a minor at risk, or violate their privacy, the team may take appropriate action.

No guarantee of absolute secrecy

Although the platform works to respect privacy, it does not guarantee absolute secrecy for anything you publish or send. The nature of the internet allows content to be copied, screenshotted, or shared by others, outside the platform's control. So treat anything you publish as something that could become visible or saved by other people, and avoid publishing anything that could harm you or anyone else.

Your responsibility

You are responsible for the data you choose to share here, for the accuracy of what you provide, for protecting your account, and for not publishing private or sensitive information about yourself or others. Using the platform means you understand the risks of publishing and interacting online, and accept that the platform is not responsible for consequences arising from information you chose to publish.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated from time to time as the platform develops, features are added, the way it works changes, or legal and operational requirements apply. The updated version is published on the platform, and continuing to use the platform after a change is published counts as acceptance of the new policy.

Getting in touch about privacy

If you have a question about privacy, or want to report a breach of your privacy or someone else's on the platform, use the contact page or the reporting tools available inside the platform. We will review requests and reports within the means available and according to the nature of the case, while retaining the right to decide in line with the platform's policies, the community rules, and the terms of use.
